Hello HOK, Happy sunday.  

I have a very good friend and colleague at work . She is a married mother of two young babies. I got to know her husband beats her like crazy. Even when she was pregnant. Beats her with belts and iron rods. If anyone attempts to stop him from doing so he beats them too. 

The recent one was just last week . He beat her so bad and put a knife to her neck, he also dragged her to the balcony and wanted  to throw her downstairs. He also said he would shoot her and her family.

To make matters worse, her in laws pays no attention to what her husband does to her.

My friend is a very beautiful and nice woman who treats this same man as a king but he beats her up over stupid issues like "Her family visiting ". The recent bone of contention is that he doesn't want her to work or engage in any business to the extent that he frustrates all her efforts. He beats up any nanny she employs, doesn't want her family or friends around. I sneak to her place whenever he isn't home. 

She graduated with a first class and cant afford to be a full housewife because the only time she tried it the husband showed her pepper. Won't drop money for upkeep of the house and kept rubbing it in her face that he was the only one bringing money home. so she got a job very close to home. 9am-5pm. 

This last beating made her fear for her life and she ran away with her kids. She doesn't know how to go about her job and school for her kids fearing he might come looking for them. She went to the police station to report him but they tried extorting money from her. She went to see a lawyer but he demanded 90k from her for a protection order from the court and I'm sure they will ask for more money from her. And she has to save the money she has for new rent and upkeep of her kids. 

The reason for writing to you is to know if there are NGOs she can run to that can protect her from the husband and also fight for her rights at little or no expense? She is really in need of it.

*Is there any lawyer on board who is willing to get her the restriction order she needs for free?
